Knowing Jesus

Knowing Jesus
Have you ever thought about heaven or hell?
If there really is a heaven, how do we get there? Who can go? And what keeps us out?
The Bible says heaven is real—and so is hell. God created us to live with Him forever, but sin separates us from Him. The good news is that God made a way for us to be forgiven and have eternal life through His Son, Jesus Christ.

Who is Jesus?
Jesus is the Son of God—and He is also God Himself. The Bible says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1). He came to show us God’s love, lived a perfect life, died for our sins, and rose again to give us eternal life (John 3:16).

Why do I need Him?
The Bible tells us that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Sin separates us from God, but Jesus bridges that gap. Only through Him can we have forgiveness and peace with God (Romans 5:8; John 14:6).

What is Sin?
Sin is anything we do—whether in our thoughts, words, or actions—that goes against God’s ways. It’s breaking His commands and choosing our own way instead of His.
To help us recognize sin, God gave us His law—the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20). They show us His standard of holiness and reveal when we fall short.
  • Sin can look like lying, stealing, or hurting others.
  • It can also be using God’s name in vain.
  • It can also be pride, selfishness, or ignoring God.
  • Even good things can become sin when they replace God in our hearts.
The Bible says, “Everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard” (Romans 3:23). That’s why we all need forgiveness through Jesus.

How can I know Him?
Knowing Jesus begins with faith—trusting Him as Lord and Savior.

  1. Admit you are a sinner in need of God’s grace.
“For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.” (Romans 3:23)
  2. Believe that Jesus died and rose again for you.
“But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” (Romans 5:8)
“If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9)
  3. Confess Him as Lord of your life.
“If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord… you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9)
“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Romans 10:13)

A Simple Prayer
“Lord Jesus, I admit that I am a sinner and I need You. Thank You for dying on the cross for me. I believe You rose again and are alive today. I ask You to forgive me, come into my life, and be my Lord and Savior. Help me to follow You all the days of my life. Amen.”

Next Steps
  • Read the Bible daily to grow in faith.
“Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” (Psalm 119:105)
“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Romans 10:17)
  • Pray and talk with God regularly.
“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.” (Philippians 4:6)
  • Connect with a local church family.
“Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together… but encourage one another.” (Hebrews 10:24–25)
  • Share your new faith with others.
“Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 28:19)

Steps with Jesus

Growing in a relationship with Jesus is much like growing in any meaningful relationship.
When we meet someone new, we exchange names, ask questions, spend time together, and little by little, trust and love begin to form. Friendships grow through honesty, shared experiences, and time invested.
But Jesus is not like us
He is the source of life itself.
He holds our very breath in His hands and sustains the world by the power of His Word.
The difference in walking with Him is that this relationship is not only about knowing about Him, but living in daily fellowship with Him. In a true, loving walk with Jesus, He pours into us what no human friend ever could: His promises, His strength, His peace, His victory, and His power to truly live.

Steps to Grow in
Your Relationship with Jesus

1. Spend Time in His Word 📖
“Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” — Psalm 119:105
“Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment.” — 1 Peter 2:2
How to do it:
  • Set aside a daily time to read the Bible. Start with a Gospel (like John) to learn Jesus’ heart.
  • Read slowly and prayerfully. Ask, “What does this show me about who God is?”
  • Write down verses that stand out and try to memorize them.

2. Talk with Him in Prayer 🙏
“Pray without ceasing.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:17
“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.” — Philippians 4:6
How to do it:
  • Begin your day by talking to Jesus, even before you get out of bed.
  • Share your worries, joys, and needs with Him honestly.
  • Practice listening — after you pray, sit quietly and let Him speak through His Word or a gentle prompting of the Spirit.

3. Obey His Word 🚶‍♀️
“If you love me, obey my commandments.” — John 14:15
“But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.” — James 1:22
How to do it:
  • When you read Scripture, ask: “What is God asking me to do?”
  • Take small steps — forgive, serve, speak truth, or let go of sin.
  • Keep a journal of moments where you chose obedience, and notice how your trust in Him grows.

4. Worship Him 🙌
“God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” — John 4:24
“Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name.” — Hebrews 13:15
How to do it:
  • Worship through music, singing at home, or joining with others in church.
  • Worship through gratitude — thank Him daily for specific blessings.
  • Make worship a lifestyle by honoring Him with your thoughts, words, and actions.

5. Walk in Fellowship with Others 🤝
“Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together…” — Hebrews 10:24–25
“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” — Proverbs 27:17
How to do it:
  • Join a local church or small group where you can grow together.
  • Share your struggles and victories with trusted Christian friends.
  • Look for ways to serve others — community builds when we give, not just when we receive.

6. Rely on His Spirit 🔥
“Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.” — Galatians 5:25
“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses…” — Acts 1:8
How to do it:
  • Each morning, pray: “Holy Spirit, lead me today. Help me to obey Your voice.”
  • Learn to recognize His guidance — often gentle nudges to encourage, avoid sin, or act in faith.
  • Trust His power, not your own strength, to overcome temptation and live with boldness.

✨ Growing in Jesus is not a checklist but a daily walk. As you spend time in His Word, talk with Him, obey Him, worship Him, walk with His people, and rely on His Spirit — your relationship will deepen, and your life will overflow with His love, peace, and power.
