Pastor Hector Sr. Pastor
My name is Hector Gonzales, and I am the senior pastor of Church of New Hope. Like so many of God’s children, the Lord saved me from my own destruction.
My life went from gangs in my early teens to becoming a teenage father. I thought to make a life for myself and my children by becoming a deputy sheriff but things spiraled out of control. Eventually, I lost my family, my mind, my freedom, and almost my soul.
But God had a plan for me from the beginning. I had heard the gospel at the age of 15 when my first son was born, and I had even asked Jesus into my life. But since I didn’t have a good foundation in the Word of God I quickly slide back into a wicked lifestyle.
My real and deep conversion came about in 1994 when I was physically, mentally and spiritually at an end of myself. I cried out to the Lord and He heard my cry.
God sent His angels— the Los Angeles Sheriffs “SWAT” teams— to capture me and take me to a place where my Heavenly Father could have all my complete attention.
It was in Los Angeles county Super-Max that a short Jewish man in a turtleneck sweater shared Jesus with me once again and I surrendered my life completely to Christ as Lord.
I was given five years to study the Word of God without interruption and in 1999 was paroled to men’s home, a ministry of Calvary Chapel of Downey.
By the grace of God, I started ministry at CCD in the Janitorial department and as the Lord moved in my life, He blessed me with the privilege of becoming the Pastor and Director of the New Hope Recovery Ministry in 2005. I assumed the position as Church Operation Administrator in 2010 and then in 2019 the Lord called me to partner with other brothers and sisters to establish a community church here in Norwalk. I am the father of nine awesome children who have caused me to go bald and have blessed me with eleven grandchildren. I saved the best for last and that is that I been madly in love with my beautiful wife Diana for 28 years.
My life verse is Luke 7:47 Therefore I say unto you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little. (In other words, those who are forgiven much love much.)
